Veteran Photographer Calling It A Day
Winnipeg Free Press photographer Ken Gigliotti has decided to retire after 35 years at the newspaper. His last day will be Dec. 31. Ken has been a good colleague, friend and solid 191 supporter and he will be missed. As has been his habit recently, Ken annouced his retirement in his typical, stream-of-consciousness style email — it will become a classic and we've attached it here for all to read.
Kenny said it best: "Most photographers I know, would consider this …. a pretty good life. An interesting life because we brought our readers something they didn't expect, or something they didn't think they needed to know….Thanks for 35 years, ken gigliotti WFP staff photographer (ret.) 30"

Bad News for Members in Multi-Employer Pension Plan
RETIREES' BENEFITS TO BE SCALED BACK FOR THE FIRST TIME
Members in the Unifor (formerly CEP) Multi-Employer Pension plan recently received bad news from the trustees and administrator of the plan: Continuing poor investment conditions have required further amendments to the plan, such that benefits to retirees will be reduced effective January 1, 2015; and, the expected benefits for those looking forward to retirement will also be reduced.
All plan members recently received a letter detailing the changes in the plan, where individual members were told how the changes will affect them going forward. For retirees: accrued benefits for service prior to January 1, 2008, will be reduced by 21.5 per cent. For those members still working, or not collecting a pension, the benefits you will receive for service prior to January 1, 2008 will be reduced by 27 per cent.
This affects Local 191 members employed at the Winnipeg Sun, Brandon Sun, MAHCP staff, and Local 191 staff.
