When Unifor was created in 2013, members identified retirement security as a top priority. Last year in Port Elgin, we brought together members from across the country for our inaugural Pension Summit. Following the Summit, we partnered with retirement security firm Common Wealth, and focused on building a retirement security action plan under the direction of the National Executive Board. Let GM & your local dealerships know you pledge to boycott Mexican-made GM vehicles

TORONTO – Unifor will launch an unforgettable Super Bowl ad on Sunday as part of its campaign calling for consumers to boycott Mexican-made General Motors (GM) vehicles.
“Canadian consumers have the power to choose which products they buy,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias. “We will do everything we can to show people how to tell GM they will not purchase vehicles made in Mexico from a company that is putting thousands of Canadians out of work.”
The new commercial will be broadcast in both English and French during Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

This week the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was reached, if ratified the deal will replace the twenty-five year old NAFTA accord.
When renegotiations started over a year ago, Unifor chose to lead the fight for ‘A Better NAFTA’. Our leadership team opted not to sit back and offer passive criticism from the sidelines. Unifor 191 members at Transcontinental LGM will hold a ratification vote on
Sunday, Sept. 30, 2-4 pm, at Holiday Inn Winnipeg Airport West, 2520 Portage Ave., Thompson Room.The bargaining committee is recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement. Details will be provided to members at the vote.
Proxy voting is not allowed.
Local 191 is pleased to once again hold its annual Scholarship Essay Competition.
The writers of the three best judged essays will each be awarded with an $1,800 scholarship.
The competition is open to any member of 191 or their children enrolled full-time in an accredited post-secondary institituion, who submit an essay judged to be the best by the scholarship committee. The deadline for submissions is 5 pm Friday, Nov. 16.
This year’s question: “Unions are being asked by provincial governments across Canada to help them meet their budgets by accepting collective agreements with low or even 0% annual wage increases. Is this a reality of the current economy or something unions should fight against, no matter what the rationale? ”

This competition is open to all Local 191 members and their children — in Alberta, Manitoba and Thunder Bay.
Application forms are available from the Local office and your CC or shop steward.
The carrier bargaining committee unanimously recommends the acceptance of a one-year extension of the current contract.
Voting will take place the night of August 13 at the Mountain Avenue depot, beginning at 11 pm and running until 4:30 a.m.
