Each winner will receive a cheque in the amount of $1,800 to help offset the cost of their post-secondary education studies.

TORONTO, Nov. 10, 2016 /CNW/ – The country's top media union is calling for strict measures to restrict the ability of police to put journalists under surveillance.
"It is too easy to spy on journalists in Canada and impede freedom of the press in Canada," says Unifor President Jerry Dias.
"Journalists rely on their sources to get stories that are in the public interest. When police tap the phones of journalists, it puts a chill on people being willing to talk to them."

Three Scholarships of $1,800 Each Will Be Awarded
Local 191 is pleased to once again hold its annual Scholarship Essay Competition.
The competition is open to any member of 191 or their children enrolled full-time in an accredited post-secondary institituion, who submit an essay judged to be the best by the scholarship committee. The deadline for submissions is 5 pm Monday, Nov. 7.

August 24, 2016 — More than 1,000 delegates attending the Unifor 2nd Convention in Ottawa marched on Parliament Hill to support Aboriginal issues.
In support of First Nation, Inuit and Metis peoples, Unifor devoted this day of its Convention to demand justice for Indigenous people and immediate action on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations.
"Today we confront the shameful realities that Indigenous people suffer," said Unifor National President Jerry Dias. "It's time for justice! Our union will push for change to end human rights abuses and to restore land and economic self-sufficiency to Indigenous peoples."
So much has happened in the three years since our union formed. Together, from coast to coast to coast, we have made incredible change and won victories for workers. Now, it’s time for our second Convention.
For five days, over 1,700 members will be in Ottawa at the Shaw Centre to discuss, debate, and vote on priorities for our union. Unifor, however, is 310,000 members strong and this is why we have great new features for every member to participate in #Unifor2016.

The board of Unifor Local 191 is inviting expressions of interest from members willing to act as trustee/member on the Retirement Plan for Employees of Winnipeg Free Press and Canstar Community News (the Plan).

Congratulations to Jacek Fatla, the recipient of the 2016 Local 191 (LSSD bus drivers) Scholarship award.
Jacek (pictured at right with Angie Munch, LSSD director of human resoruces) is a student at the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School in Selkirk. The scholarship is a $200 award.
The annual award was started in 1978 by the former LSSD school bus drivers association (now members of Local 191) and is given to a bus student involved in the arts or extra curricular activities, graduating with a high average and planning to continue with post-secondary education.
Steinbach's first Pride march has moved from the sidewalk to the street.
Join Unifor Local 191 and other labour and community groups and individual Manitobans who are showing their support for the LGBTTQ* community in Steinbach.
Marchers will be gathering at 10:30 a.m. at, E.A. Friesen Park, adjacent to the Jake Epp Library; 255 Elmdale Street.
It will be a short walk to the Steinbach city hall.
